The Danish Minister for Development Co-operation and Global Climate Policy, Dan Jørgensen, and representatives of the three main Danish foundations recently visited the Kakuma refugee camp in north-western Kenya to launch a new collaboration with the Kenyan authorities on the future of refugee support.
This partnership aims to support Kenya’s efforts to create a more sustainable approach to the protracted refugee situation. The initiative will last three years and amounts to more than 70 million US dollars, which, among other things, will make it possible to support the strengthening of local Kenyan authorities and improve the health and education of refugees and the local population.
By combining the resources and expertise of state and private foundations, the collaboration will support Kenya’s efforts to create more sustainable solutions for refugees in the Kakuma refugee camp. Each partner brings unique expertise to the table. The LEGO Foundation’s experience in education, the Novo Nordisk Foundation’s expertise in healthcare and the Grundfos Foundation’s experience in water programmes will be used to strengthen local schools, healthcare and water supplies.
